Just the Essentials: My Yarn, My Needles and My Computer

It Begins! A bit late…

I’ve officially started my first socks for Summer of Socks 2007!

I expect to have several socks in progress at any given time throughout the summer. The current count is 3!

First up - Some basic stockinette socks. These were going to be the [Charade] pattern but I wasn’t feelin’ the love with the color/stitch combo so I decided to keep it simple.

Second - [Fixation Ankle Socks]

Third - [Fuzzy Feet] I’m not entirely sure these count as socks but I’m making them anyway.

I also got a boatload of sock yarn in the mail. I won’t describe each one but here are the photos.

That’s it for now!

Bad Blogger…

It seems that I begin just about every post saying that it’s a catch-up post. Sadly, this one is no exception.

Summer of Socks 2007 began on June 21. I had great plans of churning pair after pair of socks out. As is usually the case, I overestimated the amount of time that I would have available for knitting. I’ve been doing some really interesting work recently. A wide variety of interesting work, actually. The bad news is that it cuts severely into my knitting time.

I will be posting my first Summer of Socks 2007 update tomorrow. Tonight I’ll talk about other things.

First is that I have an FO! At long last! They are the RPM socks that I started awhile back. I loved the pattern and the yarn turned out to be nicer to work with than my first impression. It was Lisa Souza Sock! in the Mars Quake colorway.

Next this is that I got a wonderful package from Gina at Sleepy Eyes Knitting and the [Sleepy Eyes Knit] podcast for the headband contest she ran awhile back. I got the book Luxury Knits: Simple and Stylish Projects for the Most Desirable Knitwear, a ball of Berroco Boho, and really clever knitting organization kit from Knit & Plenty. Thanks Gina!

I have restarted my [We Call Them Pirates] hat. The first one ended up miserably small. I went up 2 needle sizes and started again. Here is my progress.

Doncha love that color combo?

I made a visit to The Loopy Ewe website the other night. I may have placed an order. I may have also placed orders with [Yarn4Socks] and Knit Picks. I may be getting a few packages in the next week. Bring on the Summer of Socks 2007!

Catching up….again

It would seem that I’m much better about dealing with backend issues related to my blog, and others that I work on, than I am with actually posting so here is another catch up post.

I got some more yarn love from a friend. It’s so much fun to get packages!

First, Great Adirondack Soxie in the Beach House colorway

Next, Socks that Rock Silkie Socks in the Mystic Kelp colorway

They are so beautiful, I’m afraid to use them!

I’m totally set on yarn for the Summer of Socks KAL!

Ravelry!

I got an invite to Ravelry and it will be totally worth the wait for those of you that havn’t gotten in yet. It is a great site as it stands right now and they have lots of improvements on the board so it is going to get better and better!

I couldn’t take the pain of knitting the Regia bamboo garter rib socks that I’ve been slaving over. It finally got through my head that fingering weight yarn should not be working up at 10 stitches to an inch and that I should not have been using size 0 needles!!! So I put them aside and started a new pair. This time using size 2 needles and Lisa Souza Sock! in the Mars Quake colorway. I’m doing the RPM Pattern from Knitty

I have a friend visiting and i’m working on the [We Call Them Pirates] hat for her using Lion Brand Microspun in black and fuscia. I love the way it is coming out except….I, once again, used needles that were much too small so the first attempt(pictured below) is a very small hat that does not even fit my 3 year old. So I went up a couple sizes and started again. I think the hat might fit an adult size head this time around ;-) Pictures of the new one to come in a later post.

Last, but not least, I wanted to post a photo of my husband’s knitting. He is doing quite well, I think!

That’s about it for tonight. Hopefully I will be able to do some more regular posting soon.
